“Dumber and Dumber To” is set to film

Dumb and Dumber To sequel

Okay Dumb and Dumber Fans, the time has come!   It has been officially released that the sequel to the Farrelly Brother’s, 1994 movie, ‘Dumb and Dumber,’ has been picked up by Universal.  Cleverly named, ‘Dumb and Dumber To,’ it has been announced that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, the original stars of the first movie, are indeed signed on for the project. With Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly set to direct this one as well, it has a huge potential to leave audiences wildly entertained.

Farrelly Brothers

We caught up with the always funny director, Bobby Farrelly (pictured left above), with an exclusive interview and some fun insight to the happenings of the project.  We took fan’s most asked questioned about the highly anticipated sequel and received some funny and exciting answers in return.

YMM: Can you talk about the deal with Warner Bros and why you guys switched studios?

BF: We made the first movie with New Line, but a few years back that studio got sold to Warner Brothers. Apparently our friends at Warners “are a little slow”, as they don’t see the funny in Dumb & Dumber. Fortunately they are allowing us to take project over to Universal Studios. Hey, the first movie wasn’t easy to get made and this one wasn’t easy either.

YMM: Are Jim and Jeff both signed on for the project?

BF: Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are definitely both in the movie. We wouldn’t even consider filming it without them. The new story picks up some 20 years after  the original. Don’t worry, they are the same Harry and Lloyd. There’s been no growth, they’re as dumb as ever.

Excuse me flo? Jim Carrey Jeff Daniels

YMM: Can you give us a hint about the story line? Will we see any other returning characters?

BF: The new movie once again involves a road trip, so as writers we played around with the idea of bumping back into some familiar characters from the original. What we don’t want to do though is simply re-tell the same story, the way that a lot of sequels seem to do. That said, you can look for a reprise of Billy in 4-C (the blind kid who bought Petey the parakeet from Lloyd), probably SeaBass, and we will meet Fraida Felcher (the chick from Cranston who we mentioned but never saw in the original).

Dumb and Dumber Set to Film

YMM: Can you give us a tease of how their new adventure begins?

BF: Without giving away too much of the plot (mainly because there really isn’t too much of a plot), the basic story line of the new movie is that Harry has developed some health issues and is in need of a new kidney. Lloyd’s is not a good match, but fortunately Harry finds out that he fathered a child some 20 years ago. He decides to track the kid down to see if he/she will donate one of their kidneys.

YMM: Will we see flashbacks of their life since so much time has passed?

BF: The new script will explain exactly what Harry and Lloyd have been doing with themselves for the past 20 years. Some of it will be told in flashback.

YMM: A lot of people still talk about the prequel to Dumb and Dumber, Dumb and Dumberer, which we understand was not made by you guys. Are you allowed to address your thoughts on this?

BF:  Prequel? What are you talking about??! I never heard about any prequel.

Dumb and Dumber To

YMM: Do you know when the movie will start filming and of when it could be released?

BF: We will begin filming later this summer or right after Labor Day, down in Atlanta. Our goal is to have the movie ready for a Summer 2014 release. With any luck, the bigwigs at Cannes will see it and insist that the movie opens their film festival next spring. We really can’t count on that though…….because, as we know, the French are assholes.

YMM: Last question: What are the chances that Harry and Lloyd have a successful worm farm? One out of a hundred? More like one out of a million?

BF:  Worms make much better pets than ants. They’re not as moody. They don’t try to make off with your popcorn. Their heads will grow back if they accidentally get chopped off. They don’t ruin picnics. I could go on and on……

Why Green?

Many people on Facebook will see filmmakers or film fanatics having green profile pictures.  This is in fact a case of solidarity with Visual Effects artists in the industry after Ang Lee won Best Director for his film The Life of Pi.  When Lee accepted his award, he never mentioned anything about the visual effects work  created which included many key visual elements to the movie.  This was also the case for Claudio Miranda, who won Best Achievements in Cinematography for The Life of Pi.

Lee has been under fire in the past for reportedly questioning why it takes so long for Editors and Visual Effects artists to get their work done and also why it costs so much money.  Tell this to the Visual Effects company, Rhythm and Hughes, that went Bankrupted after completing The Life of Pi (oh and they won an Oscar for their work too).  We would love to hear your thoughts on the subject though!  Comment below and don’t forget to like us on our Your Movie Madness Facebook page!

Weekend Box office numbers are in!

Check out this weekends Box Office estimates for Friday, February 15th through Sunday, February 17th.  A Good Day To Die Hard topped the charts with its opening weekend with a release of $33 million.  With a $92 million budget, I am sure the new Bruce Willis flick will do really well in Box Office numbers.  Coming in at number two was the comedy Identity Thief starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy.  In its 2nd week of release, it received $23 million bringing in a total of $71 million.

Harrison Ford Set to Return as Han Solo?

Harrison Ford as Han Solo

It is being reported by the Latino Review, that Harrison Ford, age 71, is all set to return as his former role of Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode VII.   As more reports are surfacing of this exciting news, it has not been announced by Disney yet if this is indeed a reality.  For those of us just now catching up and confused by the Disney name and Star Wars together, it was reported in October that the Walt Disney Company agreed to purchase the Star Wars movie for $4.05 billion in cash and stock.  With George Lucas stepping down from directing, J.J. Abrams ( Super 8, Star Trek, Mission Impossible III) will direct. The movie is currently updated on IMDB as being in pre-production with a release date of 2015.

Tell us your thoughts! Will you be excited to see Ford return, as a cameo role or do you prefer a larger role for him?  Do you think this is a done deal or just hype to get everyone talking?

Check out this quick interview where Ford says Han should have died in the last episode he was in over 30 years ago:
